After a late-night arrival from Singapore, we spent the night in Hulhumale, a small island town near Male. The next morning, we explored the beach 🏖️ before boarding “My Felicity,” our luxurious liveaboard for the week. After settling in, we did a check dive near Male to test our gear. The visibility wasn’t great, but a surprise visit from giant rays made it an exciting start! The next morning’s dive was even better, with huge schools of rays and Guitar Sharks gliding past us.
Lankan Manta Point & Maaya Thila 7:42
Another epic day of diving! Our first stop was Lankan Manta Point, a cleaning station where we watched three massive manta rays effortlessly glide around us. Later, we did a sunset-to-night dive at Maaya Thila, where blacktip and whitetip reef sharks 🦈 patrolled the reef. We surfaced just in time for an unreal Maldivian sunset 🌅, the perfect end to an incredible day.
Maaya Thila & Holhola Thila 15:03
🤿 Our morning dive at Maaya Thila brought us face-to-face with whitetip reef sharks 🦈 cruising the site. Next, we explored Holhola Thila, a breathtaking reef covered in lush coral gardens 🪸 and towering pinnacles. The Maldives keeps delivering dive sites straight out of a dream!
Fesdhoo Wreck & Manta Night Dive 20:04
In the late afternoon, we explored the Fesdhoo Shipwreck, where we spotted a giant manta ray gliding through the eerie remains. But the real highlight? A manta night dive under our boat! As our torches 🔦 lit up the water, plankton gathered, attracting Nurse Sharks and a ghostly Manta who danced in the dark for almost an hour. Absolutely unreal!
Moofushi Channel & Panettone 29:40
We skipped the early morning dive for some extra sleep but made up for it with two incredible dives. Moofushi Channel had us drifting along a steep wall, surrounded by reef sharks 🦈 and eagle rays soaring through the blue. At Panettone (Kalhahandi), we weaved through intricate coral structures 🪸, spotting a giant manta ray and a Hawksbill Turtle up close. Another mind-blowing day in the Maldives!
Shark Diving 35:12
We plunged into the water surrounded by a massive school of Nurse Sharks. Despite their fearsome reputation, these bottom-feeders are incredibly docile, making for an unforgettable dive. Just when we thought it couldn’t get better, a blacktip shark appeared, gliding right past us!
Drift Dives & Guraidhoo Island 42:51
Two thrilling drift dives at Alimatha Uthuru Kandu & Kandooma Thila had us riding the currents alongside sharks, eagle rays, and a Green Sea Turtle 🐢. In the afternoon, we explored Guraidhoo, a vibrant local island in the South Male Atoll, offering a fascinating glimpse into everyday Maldivian life.
Hulhumale Neru & Male 51:37
Miranda’s dive at Hulhulmale Neru turned out to be the most incredible yet, with the largest gathering of rays we’d seen all trip! Meanwhile, I explored Male, one of the world’s most densely populated cities, a striking contrast to the vast, open ocean we’d been calling home.
